Here in the Northeast United States, the growing season for vegetables and fruits is coming to an end.
Some vegetables, though, continue to be harvested. Still available at local farmers’ markets are cauliflower, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, leeks, parsnips, collard greens and some salad greens.
Several ideas for using the above:
• Cauliflower gratin
• Roasted broccoli
• Sautéed Brussels sprouts
• Potato-leek soup
• Mashed parsnips

You forgot celery root! (a.k.a. celeriac) I've been buying it recently at farmer's markets up here in Boston. It's heavenly cooked & pureed in soup, or mashed like potatoes.
ECL - You're right! There will be a couple posts on celeriac this week.

Mercury metal (from latin hydrargyrum = liquid silver) is shiny and silvery and the only metal that is liquid at room temperature. Mercury metal is known since ancient times, when it was believed to be something magical and also a cure for everything. More recently Mercury metal was and still is used in thermometers and barometers and in amalgams as filling for our teeth. Elemental mercury and many of its compounds are very toxic, so it should be avoided and not be used, if there are alternatives. Mercury metal can be sold only in small quantities and perfectly sealed for laboratory or display use.
